At a Glance

Balance Druid is a ranged caster DPS that manages an Eclipse (Sun/Moon) balance gauge and a Celestial burst window. Maintaining DoTs, managing resources, and lining up the roughly 2 to 3 minute burst window is the core loop. Multi-target DoT spread makes the spec extremely strong in AoE while keeping a steady average output in single target.

Why This Stat Priority

Balance runs DoTs and rotation cycling at the same time, so Haste and Mastery typically lead the priority. Haste increases cast speed and DoT tick frequency, and Mastery scales both your key abilities and your DoT damage. Crit and Versatility follow, but build flavor (alignment-focused vs sustained) can shift the order, so check the meta distributions for your build before committing.

Tier Set Notes

Druid tier sets typically grant a small DoT or key-ability buff at 2-piece and a meaningful effect on the Celestial window or core builder at 4-piece. When the 4-piece is strong, BIS shifts heavily toward set pieces, and non-set BIS can look temporarily stronger before you complete the 4-piece. Hold the 4-piece-first rule.

Trinket Selection

Balance's burst windows are relatively long and clearly telegraphed, so on-use trinkets that line up with Celestial Alignment perform well in single target. In AoE, passive trinkets that trigger on multi-target hits raise the average, and plain Intellect-heavy trinkets hold their own too. Pick based on your content split.

Farming Path

Balance's largest single upgrades are your weapon and your 4-piece set. First week: prioritize weapon-dropping bosses and run Mythic+ in parallel to fill missing tier slots. After the 4-piece, climb in the order trinkets → non-set ilvl → gems and enchants. If you have crafting knowledge, apply it to a weapon or embellished slot first.

When to Break BIS

(1) Weapon item-level gap is large — always pick the higher-ilvl weapon. (2) 4-piece is incomplete — set pieces first. (3) Heavy AoE content — adjust trinkets toward multi-target triggers. (4) Heavy single-target raid — favor on-use trinkets that align with Celestial Alignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

I heard Balance has weak single-target — is that true?

Half true. Balance is so strong in AoE that single-target can look mediocre in comparison, but in practice, single-target stays above average more often than not after patch tuning. Compare the raid distribution (single-target heavy environment) and the Mythic+ distribution on the meta gear page to estimate your real expectations after a patch.

Should Celestial Alignment always be used the moment it comes off cooldown?

As a rule, yes — Celestial Alignment is your burst window and the more often you use it, the higher your average damage. Two exceptions: (1) if a phase transition or AoE window is 30-40 seconds away, holding it can be stronger, and (2) lining it up with build-specific synergies (like Dreamsurge or other burst cooldowns) is reasonable. Don't hold it indefinitely though.
