Uniques vs legendaries vs mythics
Diablo 4 has three relevant item tiers for end-game gear. Legendaries are generic — they carry a legendary aspect, and that aspect can be moved or replaced. Uniques are named items with a fixed unique effect baked in: the effect cannot be removed or rerolled, and the item occupies the slot a legendary would have. Mythic uniques are a higher-power subset — the current catalog holds 16 of them — and their effects often define an entire build archetype. They drop from high-difficulty endgame content and can also be crafted (see the FAQ below). The catalog flags mythic uniques separately so you can filter to them when planning a long-term goal.
How the catalog connects to the planner
Every unique on this page is selectable inside the build planner. From /d4/[class]/build you can equip a unique into its slot, see how its inherent affixes stack with your tempering and Masterworking, and check whether it conflicts with an aspect you were planning to use (uniques and aspects share slot real-estate — equipping a unique boots means giving up the aspect you would have applied to those boots). Generic-named jewelry like 'Tassets of the Dawning Sky' is filenamed as class-restricted in the upstream catalog even though the in-game tooltip says any class can wear it, so the picker consults the decoded class allow-list first and only falls back to the filename hint when no allow-list is present.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do some uniques show no class badge?
Those are generic uniques — most jewelry, some amulets, and a handful of weapons — that any class can equip. The catalog hides the class badge for them because showing 'all classes' on the card is visual noise. Filter by class will still surface them for the chosen class, since they're treated as valid drops for everyone.
How do mythic uniques drop?
Mythic uniques drop from high-difficulty endgame content, and they can also be crafted from Resplendent Sparks — the current recipe is 4 Sparks at the Alchemist, or 1 Spark plus a set of runes at the Jeweler. Drop rates are intentionally low; the catalog shows the item itself but does not estimate per-source drop percentages, because Blizzard does not publish them and community estimates shift every patch.
Why do some unique cards show different icon styles?
Icons sourced from Inven's item database show the standard sharp-edge in-game icon; those sourced from Wowhead use Wowhead's CDN bucket and have a slightly different border treatment. The two coexist because Inven's database is manually curated and currently covers roughly 600 of the 736 uniques — the ~130 newest Lord of Hatred uniques fall back to Wowhead until Inven indexes them. The fallback is automatic and doesn't affect the item's data — only the icon presentation.
